It's easy to agree that demand -- the sheer yearning for good, hearty, mouthwatering beef -- has carried this fall's market. For weeks now, boxed beef prices have rallied, helping keep cash cattle prices strong and a good incentive for packers to keep the processing belts turned up high. A report on the Market Facilitation Program released Tuesday by Senate Democrats challenges USDA's trade aid, arguing the highest payments went to Southern farmers who grow cotton while USDA also ignored typical protocols such as limits on payment caps.
December corn is up 1 1/2 cents per bushel, January soybeans are down 1/4 cent, and December KC wheat is up 4 cents.
Market cautiousness is seen early Thursday morning following abrupt triple-digit losses seen midweek. The swift shift lower can't be seen as a surprise following the potential for a correction over the last several weeks, but it doesn't make the market pressure any easier.
